ok well how fast is a humming birds reaction time? They fly super fast, heart beats super fast, so do they have reaction times like in Wanted where they can slow everything down

but srsly... im sure they have to be able to react very quickly when they fly as fast as they do... so maybe they can try and aviod goin into the window and fly back?

one way to test it would be to get a helium balloon then save it until the balloon has lost just enough helium to where it barely floats. Then put the balloon in your car and try accelerating fast and braking hard.

but its not being a live thing, it looses any chance to try and react to the situation

when a vehicle is traveling at any given speed, everything within the vehicle is traveling at the same speed, but this is due to being tethered to the car itself (via seat or other mechanism). The hummingbird has to propel itself to the cars speed since there is no physical contact to anything interior, and it will not be affected by any force to stop the vehicle.

looks like its related to newtons first law of physics: An object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.

poor hummingbird
So what about that fly in my car? It was doing 90 with me?

But there's no moving wind. It's not cutting through the air at 65mph

You can travel tens of thousands of miles per hour by just standing still!!

Except it's the earth thats flying through space, and your attached, so you don't really notice.

Or blow some bubbles in the car and drive like a maniac for a while. or blow bubbles in a big glass box and shake it around.

Oh boy....

Here's a clue for y'all:

You are driving on the freeway...at 65mph...when you notice a car to your left, which is being driven by Ronald McDonald, is matching your speed.

Being as giddy as a school girl on prom night, you panic and cram on the brakes.

What happens to Ronald's car?

so if the fly was in the car but on the side or attached to something and once the car hits 65 mph and the fly detaches itself to the car and flies around the car, does it still have to propel in 65mph or does it take advantage that it's already 65 mph and just fly as if in static state?
