IS there a way to check if your Rear Bumper has been painted or replaced?
IS there a way to check if your Rear Bumper has been painted or replaced?
Hey Guys
I bought a AW STI and the color on the rear bumper doesn't exactly match with the body paint. I checked the undercarriage and inside the spare tire wells and everything is stock, no new anything.
I think the dealer may have removed it to paint a few scracthes but I know in my white G35 the bumper paint does not match as well as the body either because the bumper is a different material which causes the slight mis-match.
Anything I should look for, I know I have missing 2 rivets each side near the rear wheels but I think thats where the mudflaps attach if I get any..
PLease advise!
Sorry I just want to be confident!

It could have been repainted but may not have been. The bumpers are plastic while the fender is metal so colors can be a little off. Pm Ballz he can tell ya more so since he does body work.

Pop the bumper cover off and check the backside of it, maybe scrape/sand some paint off in a hidden section?
I know I see a lotta Toyota Camrys (1997-2001) with seemingly OEM paint that just doesn't seem to match between the body & bumper.

I happened to see some overspray on the bottom rivets (on each side), they are lightly sprayed white..I'm thinking..the dealer had the bumper sprayed because it had some scratches (dealers call this reconditioning a vehicle)..It seems like they repaired the scratched while the bumper is was still on because when I check below and backside of the bumper..I see some overspray on the tow hook
And I found a Green Dot on the bottom of my bumper..WTH is that for?..

Hey guys..I talked to Bryan AKA Ballz...he mentioned the little green dot I found is a indicator that its the OEM bumper.
So my 1st theory maybe correct as the dealer may have painted the bumper as a reconditioning method!

i have aw and the bumper does not match the rear panels perfectly, just because paint on plastic will be different from paint on metal as mentioned above. one is a little lighter in shade.
