There is a god... and he hates SUVs. (story time)
So, today I'm rolling back up the 5 from LA and I keep hitting these packs of cars doing around 70-75. It's about 3 in the afternoon and I've been doing a pretty steady 85-95 the whole way up. No problem, just have to do some educated guesses on when to pass on the right between big rigs. Nothing dangerous, I don't cut anyone off, I just want to get ahead of the slow packs.
Well, I pass up this Big Black SUV. 454 Super Sport plastered down the side. I don't know Chevys so I can't narrow it down more than that. Jacked up, big chrome deep dish wheels, thing had just been detailed. Colorado plates.... and as I pass him I hear him drop it a notch and ROAR goes his engine. This gets an "er, ok, what was that about?" from me.
Anyways, a few semi's later I find myself without a spot to merge safely back in. So instead of being a d*ck and forcing my way back over I hit the breaks and slow down. 2 cars later I see a spot opening up in the rear view mirror so I hit the blinker and I'm about to merge back to my left when Mr. 454 (who I am about to pull in front of) hits the accelerator and cuts me off. I can see his profile through his tinted windows laffing away with his buddies as he passes. Well, that throws off my rhythm and now I'm half a dozen more cars behind this guy coming to the conclusion that he must have it in for all sport compact cars.
Over the next dozen or so miles I work my way back in front of him a few times and each time he proceeds to rocket by and get back in front of me. I leave him plenty of room cuz I could care less about whatever crusade he is on. At this point I'm beginning to daydream about my V1 going off on some open stretch and watching him sail off into the radar trap.
Anyways, a few miles later I see my opening. It's one lone semi on the right and only a few cars on the left between me and open stretches of 95 mph again. I speed down on the right, looking ahead to my left to pass the last big rig when I come to the realization that I'm about to end up on open road alongside Mr. 454. Yay for me!
And right then as I go under an overpass I see it.
My sign from God.
The clouds part, the heavens sing, and a brilliantly white sedan comes speeding down the on ramp. I watch him roll down perfectly in Mr. 454's blind spot. This is beautiful. I swing around the truck in front of me to get a better view of this and sure enough God's messenger slides right up behind Mr. 454 and hits the lights.
My V1 never beeped.
And I fly past him with cheers resounding from my girlfriend and her kids in the back seat.
So, I kicked it back up to 90 and drove the rest of the way home daydreaming about the expression on Mr. 454's face right as he hit the dirt and looked over to see me fly by.

I hate SUVs more than Hondas though, so his story rocks.
