I want to go out and do some autox practice, but I never can find anywhere that's remote/deserted enough.

No need to practice. Just show up at one of our events.

There are 2 where people can run Auto-X
Marina Muni
Alameda

Both of them require that you be there as part of an insured, organized event.

I was down in Marina recently after leaving Laguna Seca and came upon an awesome huge parking lot. I wish we had something like that in the bay area! I'm sure you could do a little practicing there if your car isn't too loud before getting kicked out. Look for 3rd ave & 5th st. Just a WAG, but it appears that they may have serviced military trucks there once.

Also, we do some small scale parking lot testing in Fremont on our race car and never get hassled.
You can see it in our video here: http://teamstimuluspackage.blogspot.com/ You can email me for the address, but these lots are all over the place. You just have to look... I spent a few hours combing google maps when bored one night, then went out to check them out in person. Many of them had locked gates I couldn't see (at first) in the satellite photos.
