I'm not sure (my roommate knows the guy, not me) but I assume the intercooler was fine when the guy drove to work in the morning. After he got to work sometime, the bees started.
If you've never seen a hive form before.....well, it's pretty cool
. And it can happen VERY quickly, that many bees could have gotten in there in under an hour, easily.
AKA, where the queen bee goes, a LOT of other bees follow
