If it was caused by damage in the road, I believe you can contact them and Caltrans will pay to repair/replace.

Depends on what caused it. In this one, I think he has a pretty good case.

Dude! That sucks, luckily it wasn't worse, but still Caltrans & their completely sloppy work I'm sure causes TONS of accidents a year here in the Bay Area. I'm sure my stopping distance on a road filled with potholes and different cement levels affects how my car stops.

Hope everything gets fixed though.

Outch! these roads are very dangerous for 65mph! on 680 going down Sunol grade, my car hops out of its lane when I am on a big turn going 70mph becuase of the broken up road, it makes me look like a drunk driver.

you need to gather evidence...

take pictures of the damage to your rim/tire, & of the specific part of the road that caused the incident.

i'm willing to bet that you aren't the first person this has happened to with this specific spot on the road. i'm sure the complaint filings will be piling up. my buddy had this happen to him about 10yrs ago, he ended up getting reimbursed, but he needed all documentation and receipts of the costs associated with fixing the damage.

but yeah, i think california's highways/freeways got ranked top 3 for worst quality in the US

That sucks Matt! At least that's all that happened; it could have been worse.
