LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Ben Stiller beat Christian Bale in the North American weekend box office duel between their respective "Night at the Museum" and "Terminator" sequels, according to studio estimates issued on Sunday.
The 20th Century Fox comedy "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" sold $53.5 million worth of tickets during the three days beginning Friday, far exceeding the $30.4 million debut of its 2006 predecessor.
"Terminator Salvation" earned $43.0 million. The film fell short of the $44 million start for the previous entry in the cyborg series, 2003's "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines," the swan song of franchise star Arnold Schwarzenegger.
But the race between the two new sequels was closer than it appeared because Warner Bros. got a head start on the U.S. Memorial Day holiday weekend by opening "Terminator" on Thursday, when it earned about $13.4 million. That takes the film's four-day total to $56.4 million.

Dang, sounds like this movie was all hype. I was looking forward to it too!
Yeah, that's pretty surprising. Don't get me wrong, the first movie was pretty funny, but the sequel looks like rubbish.

i liked the motorcycle bots, the hot girl, the explosions but the plot had a lot of holes and i just didn't get as much out of it as I hoped.
I hope transformers does better... but i think it will let me down as well.

The transformers sequel looks really, really, REALLY bad.
They are milking that franchise with all the power they have. It's sad when a movie is a product of corporate milking.
Transformers shouldn't be a comedy, they should have made it into a more serious film and made the robots more realistic (as realistic as something like that can get). Sorta how GI Joe the movie is far more serious then the original cartoon... I love how they used the cartoon as a base of the movie but added far more content into the story. If they only did that with Transformers... use the cartoon as a base and add modern tech to make it more realistic... There's way too much bling and comedy in the movie for me to really like it... The second film looks like a joke. There are some scenes that look good, but then other scenes that look horrible, like when that robot is rocking out to Tina Turner "I'm so excited"... I mean, are those scenes really necessary? They could have made the robots look a lot cooler if they hadn't had stuck to the cartoon's design so much... If they would have only had modernized the characters but still made them into "transformers", just not as lame looking... Although some of the robots did look really cool. I'm just glad they didn't have Soundwave in the movie in his cartoon form... lol

I'm pretty disappointed too. Action was "good" but it totally did not have the dreadful urgency of the first 2. Thumbs down. Wait to neflix it with some beers.

Think this movie could have been great with the right director,
Joseph McGinty's only 2 other movies hes directed were Charlies Angles 1 and 2. How the **** are you gonna let him direct a Terminator movie??
can you imagine how badass it would have been if Christopher Nolan or David Fincher would have directed it??
oh well

When I first saw that McG was going to direct it I knew it was going to suck. I mean WTF kind of name is McG? The first time a saw an interview with him I was like "Oh great, not only is his name make him sound like a moron, but he looks like and is a dochebag."
I went in there with zero expectations (I am a die hard Terminator fan, but I only respect 1 and 2 and the Sarah Connor Chronicles, they're the only ones that do the series/plot justice, and **** fox for canceling it)
I was pretty entertained for a plotless action movie, but as far as a terminator movie, I think they could've done a lot better, I think John Connor would've been better played by someone else, Christian Bales is annoying, especially his gravelly I'm on methamphetamines and steroids voice.
It sucks that James Cameron lost his rights to the Terminator franchise, we can thank Linda Hamilton for ****ing up any subsequent movies. Its all about making money, not what appeases fans.
