Tax man comith!

It's about that time again folks.

How do you married folks do your taxes? H&R Block, etc. Jointly, etc?

This is my first tax filing as a married couple.

On a good note... I just got my paperwork back from the IRS. I got audited and owed some money from an error I made in 03'. I just finished paying it off. WOOT!!!

What can I expect filing jointly? Don't own a home. No kids yet.

My tax guy advised us to file jointly last year. We're in different situation, though. We own a home which we used to live in, but rented out last year. Got hit with AMT...

being married generally results in having a higher tax liability, which kind of sucks. what happens, in basic terms, the lower income of the household is now subject to the same tax rate and higher as the higher income of the household. usually, most people just claim m-1 or something, and the lower income doesn't have nearly enough withheld.

i use turbotax, and if everything comes out good and i get a refund, I file it. if it comes back saying i owe a bit, i go to a professional. i had a guy last year that i'll use again, he helped be get our tax bill down from $3k to a little over $1k.

I don't see why we'd have to pay...that'd be rediculous. Filing seperate we'd probably get around $1500 a piece back. We both make pretty much exactly the same amount. I used to be the big fish but when I moved back to SC I took a pretty massive pay cut. About 40-45%.

I'd think jointly we'd get at least $3000 back. That's what I was hoping for anyways. Pay off a couple of the small debts.

shoot me a pm on how much she may charge me.

I did the online tax thing and got a decent return...then found out that it was wrong and I got friggen hosed. That's what I've been paying off. Audited my *** and found the error. I don't plan on ever doing my taxes on my own again.
