Tattoos -- Sin or not?
Why are tattoos considered a sin? Anyone have opinions, facts or rumors on this? Ive always like them, but not enough to commit.
Ive heard that whatever part of your body is inked, it wont be visible in the afterlife. And if you band yourself (tribal bands, ect..) your limb will be gone...

i guess you can look at it this way.
" God created us in his own image" and he created us individually
so when you are getting a tattoo you are basically vandalizing is work. Personally i dont think that it is a sin.

Well, according to Catholic traditions, what flipmode said is pretty much correct. God created us in his image and with that has instilled in us messages of love and virtues. So in a sense, you can think of it as placing graffiti over a work of art.
Even though it may be taboo or a sin, I see it as an expression of self-individualism. People get them now but regret them when they get old. I think people shouldn't regret them when they get old, because they should see their tattoo as symbol of their once adventurous youth and bring back memories.
That's just my opinion.

Well, you can look at Leviticus 19:28:
"You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord."
But some may say that it's the law of the OT...So, it depends on what convicts you
Before you decide to permanently mark your body with piercings or tattoos, ask yourself the following questions:
1) What statement am I making with this piercing or tattoo?
2) Does it honor God?
3) How might this decision affect me 10 years from now? 20? 30?
Once you have answered these questions, get the opinion of your pastor. They might not always be right, but it is wise to seek the counsel of others before making a permanent decision.

Even if it's a sin, you just gotta say a few hail marys and apologize right? I mean...that's what the priests did who got caught banging little boys. A tattoo can't possibly be more of a sin than that...HA

Yes, and the tooth fairy and easter bunny are real as well. Think about what happens if you get tattoos to completely wrap your neck! Do you get sent to purgatory without your head, does St. Peter give you a ticket for the next train to hell, or do they have to send you to another sub-level of heaven for headless souls? You just rot in the ground, mmkay....
I would love to travel in time with just to witness how the foundations of religion were poured and twisted over the years, especially with the puritans.

That's up there with those who believe dancing and playing cards are sins. If you can't get a tattoo, are you allowed to get your ears pierced?
