Red face Tahoe kiddie ski schools

My soon-to-be 10-yr-old kid wants to learn to ski, so I'd figured we'd do a daytrip to Tahoe this upcoming season. She can spend the morning in a ski class, while Dad putzes around the mountain for a little while. Then we can spend the afternoon together on the bunny slopes.

So my question: can anyone recommend (yea or nay) any of the ski schools up in the Tahoe area? Also, are helmets for kids required these days?

And before anyone asks... I could teach her myself, but I'd rather pay the bucks so my daughter to get pissed/frustrated at an instructor instead of her Old Man.

Try Sierra At Tahoe Drive. I worked there for a few years sometime back and the kids schools were fabulous. Its also closer to the Bay Area for a day trip. I am pretty sure they all use helmets now, but they will set you up with everything. Daddy can even get a great pair of new DEMO skis to rent if needed to.

Most of the places provide the equipment. Bring your kid w/ warm waterproof clothes and a pair of gloves and let them loose.

helmets are not required, but put one on your child. They'll probably fight it, but most parents are making kids wear helmets. It's just smarter.

I found a lot of schools provide them.

Alpine has a great school! That's where my kids are going this year. Helmets are a must for everyone on the slopes. Look at it this way, would you mountain bike without a helmet. On skis you can easily double the everage speed you would on a mountain bike.
