Yes, peaceful protests... thats exactly whats happening in the mideast right now. we really need a :naive: emoticon on this board...

i really like that you are using Oakland as your benchmark for riots but im pretty sure that people stealing FUBU gear and setting trashcans on fire isn't exactly the same thing as attempting to overthrow the government.

this **** didn't happen "every other week" until a few months ago. when you repress people for decades **** is likely to blow up in a bad way.

China is a good example of a middle ground between the US and the current mid-east riots. They do have riots that they forcibly put down... but they also target the people that incite those riots and pressure them into shutting the **** up or lock them away in jail. in this country shooting rioters/protesters are politically damaging, a blight on washington's white veneer. thats why the Fed prefers to target individuals... FISA warrants anyone?

if China stopped beating the **** out of their protestors their policy would be basically the same as ours.

Yes it's awful, and we need to let Syria handle it's own affairs. As soon as we get involved, the whole operation is perceived in the middle east as US imperialism.
On a political standpoint, I agree with you.

On an "a$$ kicking revenge" standpoint, I have to disagree

Our soldiers have done the same **** to civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan. I got a friend with PTSD because of the stuff they were forced to do. I know I should feel bad and what not but its war and people will die. Gaining political freedom is going to come with a cost.

Also since we Americans care so much about human rights and all, why arent we in Africa freeing the people and fighting for their democracy? Oh thats right because it wouldnt effect our gas prices..

Maybe it was lack of wars then. For 3 yrs the recruiter kept calling me every 3-6 months to see what the status of my immigration application was. It wasnt meant to be.

+1 this....if something happens, they ask for our help and when we go over there, we receive the negativity of the world later on...if we ignore their plea for help, we receive the negativity of the world...sucks but we really do get blamed for it no matter what

Not having a green card doesn't matter. You don't even have to be a US Citizen to enlist. As a matter of fact, you will be guaranteed citizenship after you complete your 4 years of active duty service.

There was a guy from Brazil in Bravo Co. 1st Recon BN that barely spoke English and he fought in OIF I.

Well I dunno why I was told otherwise then. My goal was to gain discipline, free education and get a green card all in one.
