At least we can appreciate that we have the right to protest or demonstrate without this happening....Terrible!

...why did all that have to happen???

*sigh*...

And many of the comments on the site are even worse. Trolls, or just really ignorant people.

When religion is turned around and preached in the wrong way u will have wrong consequences...in this case majority of the mid. East governments have turned Islam into just a political battle. No matter who or how many they kill, as long as they keep there political status...it's sad really. Hopefully some good will come to those people in need and soon.

dont assume that because we live in America that the government wouldn't shoot you in the face for standing up for what you believe in.

clearly you dont really have any idea whats going in syria or any of the other countries in very stages of revolution in the mid-east. its a pretty simple formula: ruling minority enriches themselves and **** on everyone else, the majority gets pissed and tries to kick out the ruler. thats what happens in basically every revolution.

Islam has very little, if anything, to do with these conflicts. Its about those with power trying to hold on to it.

Those are just easy examples that are easy for people to understand. I used "shot in the face" figuratively, but it does happen to some people... There are plenty of other cases that apply.

I don't see what religion has to do with the uprisings in Syria, or Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain, or Libya. The root cause of the revolts there are the response of an oppressed, impoverished majority against authoritarian dictatorships, a number of whom are American allies. The main point of these revolutions is not about religion, it's about economics. Even in Bahrain, despite the sectarian strife between the Shiite majority populace and the Sunni minority government, it's more a fight over economic inequality than faith (read about Bahrain's modern history). Islamic fundamentalists have nothing to do with any of the uprisings in the Middle East, Al Qaeda hasn't even tried to take credit for any of the rebel's acts, and Khaddafi's attempts to blame the root of the rebellion on them is was an attempt to try to get the West to support his dictatorial regime (towards which many Western nations have become soft towards in recent years prior to the current civil war) against the rebels.

Do your homework before you make some inaccurate, hive-minded blanket statement, please!

Agreed. Have we all forgotten the lessons of the Civil Rights Movement less than fifty years ago? Or those who were slaughtered by the Ohio National Guard at Kent State during the Vietnam War?
