Has anyone removed a sunroof? OR know how much it weighs? Im guessing its at least 30 lbs of gears, tracks and a motor. the high center of gravity roof makes the low center of gravity boxer engine pointless i think.

Im thinking of getting a roof from a brighton if thats even possible.
Thanks

i figured it would be a pain, it was near the end of my list:
Driver seat->Sparco ...................-20 lbs
Pasenger seat-> nothing ...........-45 lbs
Braille Battery..............................-15 lbs
CF Aluminum Hood.......................-15lbs
Sunroof........................................-?

Im 2700 right now.
My goal is below 2599

But battery and roof are key points to get rid of weight.
I want to go to a pick and pull to see if the roof is just a panel or is it part of the construction?

It has to be at least 30 extra lbs up there

um... how the hell are you 2700 lbs in a RS?!?!

Gilberts DSP machine is about 2675 and that's ripping out a LOT of stuff! (no airbags, race steering wheel, seats, battery, aluminum (i beleive) body coilovers, etc)

Hood is worth more than that, over 35lbs. (we have steel hoods!)
seats are about 38lbs each (total) so a sparco could get you to about 20lbs total (if you have rails)
Battery might be worth about 20lbs

Sunroof is about 35lbs. You would remove the components and then weld it shut and paint. any other way would degrade the structural integrity of the car.

I got weighed at the dump, it was teetering at increments of 20 between 2920-2900 and im 180 lbs so i got the figure 2720-2700 right?
with a 1/4 tank with my 5 lb wing on!

maybe i'll try a different scale.

my spare is a can of fix-a-flat lol or a AAA card.

but instead of having a flatspot, im wondering if i can get the roof panel from an L and cover the hole (so on the inside id still see the hole)

you don't want to do anything else other than weld something in. the rest of the roof should remain intact. It may save your life one day.

well im not thinking of sawzall ing it out and rewelding a new roof, i was just talking about a new sheet thats 1/16" thick body panel from an L, my orginal skeleton would remain.

Whos the guy swapping his red L into full STi Race spec white cage/interior i cant remember where i saw that. car must be worth $50,000 by now.

Actually, if i had money and this were a dedicated track car, id cut the whole top half off, even windshield and make it a big tub with a fat roadster cage.

It might look weird though. so maybe not
