Suggestions on my new computer config

... yes, it's Friday evening and I'm just contemplating whether to change anything before this puppy goes into burn-in. It's primarily for photoshop and standard home use, with some 3D gaming thrown in. Any mavens out there want to comment?

[Yes, I know it's overkill for a home PC. You know what I drive... this should not surprise anyone ]

2 x AMD Opteron 275 (2.2 GHz) Dual Core
2 x Zalman CNPS7000B-ALCU Cooler for Socket-939 / 940
1 x Tyan Thunder K8WE nVidia nForce4 Pro 2200

Lots of money

my dual opteron 246's in my sun box are purtty nice..

spend more money on faster Disk IO for boot and program storage (ie 10k sata raptor drives) they pay off.. then use a larger array for static storage...

And you do know how much all of that will cost right..

ditch one of the CPUs and get more RAM and faster disks.

Which sucks because most of our servers run ~ $20k for the intel/amd based boxes. Though they have designs more suited to a server environment, just sucks it's so much $$

haha yeah i am prob going to be buying a few more sun servers for the house

got a project that is shaping up to be a cpu hog (as well as storage)

Say, that is a very good idea! A pair of fast Raid0 drives for programs / replaceable data, and the larger slower array for irreplaceable items. I think I'll do just that.

If you are accustomed to quality rackmount hardware like Sun and HP, you will be appaled at the XServe. As a rackmount device, its a POS.
