suby tuning shops

I posted something similar at nasioc.com and someone advised me to go ahead and try asking here. So here it is:

Hello there. Just a quick question.

I was wondering if the bay area had a tuning shop specializing in subbies. I'm a senior in highschool and with the year slowing down I thought i'd start my search early. I fell in love with the WRX soon as I saw one few years back and i figured, what better way to spend a few months than tunning subies, WRX's in particular.

So I'm hopeful that someone knows of a shop that works on subies somewhat close to Fremont/San Jose bay area. I'm planning to check Gruppe-S as they are a potential candidate (their building is maybe 20minute drive from home). But before I contact them, I'd like to see what else is here. Subydude.com is also very close by but as far as I understand, they're more of a warehouse than a "tuning shop".

Getting paid is not an issue. Sure if i can be put to work for money that'd be great, but cash isnt the objective of this search.

the point in a sentance for you sparknotes.com people: have a blast spending a few months learning about/tuning wrx's.

I can only learn so much reading up message boards and looking at pictures.

Thanks a bunch! And no, i'm not trying to bum a few hop ups for the summer, I drive a camry and happy with it. Just want to be around subies more. Yes I suppose I could work at a dealer but then I'd probably cry as I watch the dream of my life being sold one...by one .....anyhow! thanks again!

Gruppe-S, Fine Line Imports, Vishnu, EQ Tuning.

I think what you're looking for is more of an apprenticeship in tuning. Good luck man.

Oh did they mention Gruppe-S yet?!?

Hmm You should also check out Gruppe-S, if they don't have what you are looking for call gruppe-s again and annoy Mike... I HIGHHHLLLYYYY recommend Gruppe-S, Mike was able to make my beater a Beast with my GT35R setup even with my motor spraying oil everywhere!! I was able to put down over 400AWHP on their dyno(which reads really low), so if he can manage to make that kind of power out of what he had to work with... I definately recommend him!!

Vishnu(Shiv) also definately knows what he is doing, EQ Tuning(Ed) also knows what he is doing but people tend not to agree with some of his "tuning" methods even though he is right you will get an ALOT better tune the way he tunes...

STimpede, when you say "tuning shop" do you mean a place where they install parts onto cars or a place where they sit on a dyno with a laptop and actually tune the car's computer into putting out more power?

A true "tuning shop" as you said would be the later option where as a normal performance shop would do the first. I have heard it many times where people ask for tuning when all they want is to get an exhaust installed or a new suspension installed. Could you please clarify on what type of shop you are looking for.

Given Gruppe-s does do both of those things though.

I think your best bet is to just start calling up the places and talking to them and getting to know then and see if you can come hang out and possible help out where ever you can, even it is just sweeping up the areas or whatever
