stupid question..i know, but its worth a try
sooo, does anyone have a crappy crappy car tahts stick they want to lend me? ive been wanting to learn how to drive stick for a looong long time, but its so hard because 1 id have to pay hundreds for an instructor..or 2..none of my friends have a stick...and if they did..its either their mom's or dad's...or they just dont wanna lend their car because it'll mess up their clutch or gears or whatever, and i understand. i really do..if i had a wrx or even like a mustang..i wouldnt be willing to lend it to my friend for him to learn stick..cuz yeah..its ur baby. thats why im asking..if anyone has a crappy beater car..like an old civic or integra i could borrow. of course..id pay..but then..im thin on money too, hehe, but yeah, just throwing it out there to see what kinda responses ill get. im 17 and had my license for 7 months, pretty good driver, observant and safe. also a quick learner and been talking to friends and stuff about how to drive a stick, but just want to feel it. buti m not expecting too much because..eveyrones really busy on these boards and they are all thin on cash themselves.
hehe i just noticed i said integra and civics are beater cars..i just dont like them...oh well, *fingers crossed*
oh yeah, winding road, ryan ..what a cool guy! he said if i learned stick, he'd let me drive his car..

i learned how to drive stick by going those ghetto used car dealerships in daly city mission and asking them to test drive their cars
if you're lucky like me, you might even be able to take a FD out for 5 min on your own.

skyline... you will pick it up in about 15 minutes. dont overanalyze the process.
when you are learning, try engaging first gear without the gas. slowly let out the clutch until you feel the gear catch. as such, you will quickly learn the sweet spot on a stick shift car... that is, the spot where the gear catches and the clutch no longer needs to be depressed without stalling your car

I learned how to drive in a stick. then I taught my brother in less than 30 mins, he drove to school after that. the first thing that I did was teach him with the engine off. spent a good 10 mins preparing him what to do mentally. once you have the sequence mentally, the physical part is easy.

i learned how to drive a stick shift by driving the car home from the dealership.
It's not too bad. The following weekend I was driving on the hills in SF (no ebrake).

dude... i have been driving for years and thee are still some hills in the city that demand ebrake-age. (one part of sacramento street in *** hill that is gnarly if you get some punk cabbie on your ****!)
I know what you are talking about. Fortunately I haven't had anyone on my **** when I am on a STEEP hill. I know it's bad, case like that, I would ride the clutch for a second or so. Any longer I just brake, but still haven't had the chance to use ebrake.
I have to say, the hardest thing for me is going reverse facing downhill.
