In-ring, he's the trash-talking meathead that all the normal folks love to hate and all the other meathead douchebags cheer their guts out for. This is the Tito that flipped off Ken Shamrock, the Tito that does that silly little grave digger thing, the Tito that challenges Dana White to a boxing match, etc. etc.
But! The out-of-the-ring Tito really honestly seems like a laid back, level-headed guy. This comes through in his coaching tactics and coaching style as reflected a few seasons ago on the Ultimate Fighter. While Ken Shamrock was taking the moral high ground while coaching his team into oblivion, Tito was actually doing a really good job looking after his guys and using sound logic and reasoning to dismantle Shamrock's team. I knew a guy that trained with Team Punishment before, and he says that this Tito is the Tito that comes into the gym everyday to push to his students to accomplish.
So long story short, Tito seems to be doing a little bit of showmanship and a little bit of gamesmanship every time he steps into the limelight.
As for his skill set, what he does, he once did really REALLY well. But like his archrival Chuck Lidell, Tito is not a complete fighter, and he's suffering the consequences of physical deterioration and its adverse effects on his strong points.

I don't know him personally, but what you are saying makes sense. I agree with you that he is not a complete fighter. Either way, I think he should call it quits. Same with Ken Shamrock. Shamrock just needs to walk away before he gets really hurt. He is still better than a lot of fighters, but he's getting older and yeah. It can be seen. Diaz totally dismantled him.

As far as I know Ken is retired since he got owned by Tito.
Good assessment. It's the same with boxers.
Boxers who arrive at old age depending on physical attributes (roy jones jr.) fall off a cliff when that superhuman attribute becomes normal due to age. Guys who are crafty and wiley (Bernard Hopkins) tend to do better.
This is why Randy Couture has been able to do well (he's been quoted on taking inspiration from Bernard Hopkins) - he's changed his style as he got older and fought smartly.
