STIs: What kind of gear oil do you run in your tranny?

I was searching Nasioc and they recommended using scotty's cocktail for the 5MT and they basically didn't say anything about the 6MT except for that is less picky.

Upon further reading I found that 75w90 is the weight to go, and that royal purple and mobile 1 are not good choices.

So I'm looking at the following:

Amsoil
Motul 300
Redline

Any suggestions?

The only ones i've heard work well are the subaru extra s and motul gear300. I went with the gear300 and it's awesome. Way easier to shift when cold and works really well. Get it from Benny at Lubrify.com tell him Karlton sent you

If you don't mind paying a little extra for the best synthetic fluid out there you should try Swepco. LIC in Novato stock it.

I use and recommend Motul Gear300, smooth shifting and the syncros are happy (04 STi, 43K miles).

If there was no Motul, I would use Swepco (heard good things about it... although I have never used it).

Can you use that for rear diff on MY02 WRX as well? Or Extra S is ONLY for STI?

Yes, you can use it in your rear diff too and any Subaru, not just STI's.

I love the Motul Gear 300 in my 6MT. I've tried Subaru Gold and Swepco. Each oil has its positives and negatives but the Motul is my choice all around.
