"The STi's 2.5L isn't a rally engine"...
I know a young guy who's building his STi for drag. I told him that's cool and all. Drag racing isn't really my thing anymore. I'd rather go around a track than in a straight line. But anyways, I told him the STi and Imprezas in general aren't built with drag racing in mind. They're rally cars. He begs to differ...
He then informs me that the STi's 2.5L isn't a "rally engine". LOL. Technically he's right. WRC motors are all 2.0, but I guess to him all that 2.5 liters of fury makes it a drag beast motor instead.
What do you guys think? Are STi's meant to be drag raced? If so, how come they dont come stock with V8's and solid rear axle suspension? I'm confused.

The 04-05s seem to hold up OK with good tunes.
I've done both with my car..Road racing is alot more fun, thats for sure.
After all AWD is great from a dig..beating many of those V8s with solid axles off the line

What a car was designed to do and what it can do might not necessary be the same thing. I'm sure Subaru didn't build the impreza with drag racing in mind. unlike the big 3 here in the states their following is world wide. And most places in the world don't drag race that much. From the places that don't have empty stretches of road that are straight. to the ones that only twist and turn. not to mention all the places in the world where 90% of the time they have crappy weather.
I'm sure the car can do some real nice 1/4s but that doesn't mean it was designed to. The only reason Subaru even built the EJ25 turbo was because the US has crappy fuel. in the UK and Japan you can buy 98 at the pump. with better gas comes better tuning. with better tuning comes more hp. in America our fuel regulation / consumption has made it where 93 is as good as it gets with out buying "racing fuel". So to make the same power Subaru had to go with the old sang "no replacement..."
p.s. If you choose to drag, get ready to replace your clutch...

you have that too.
do you glide the clutch in , or do you choose 4500 rpm drops?
you can make any car a drag car or a race car with enough money. but no wrx was originally designed with drag racing in mind. besides, drag racing is lame. anyone can go fast in a stright line.
i have heard of the O6's plastic mounts snapping on hard launches...an example would be ESX i guess, but i still think the STI's place is in the dirt or tarmac, 1/4 miles maybe but...not really

Personally I belive a more accurate topic would be "The STi's 2.5L isn't a WRC homogulated engine"... Believe me, if WRC regulations allowed an extra .5 liters, Subaru would take full advantage of them. That being said, I respect the whole less is more attitude of WRC in regards to engine size. As for the 2.5L engine being for draging, any engine with that much power will be if you have money to feed your driveline to keep it running.

Ask Lookingforpower...even after what 60-70+ passes he still can't drive for shizt
LOLI have done both road and drag and i love both...but to rag on either is lame IMHO.
