STI swap smog question
Hey all, I have just a little question for you guys. Does a bug eyed WRX with a STI swap pass smog in CA? I'm looking at one right now, but I need it to pass smog. Anyone know of anyone who has done this, or has experience? Thanks.
edit: Will this car pass:

As long as all obd2 stuff is still in there and connected and its not throwing any codes it should pass. Needs cats for the sniffer test for sure though.

True.
That car is out of compliance until certified. Also, it is modified and not the same as an STi swap. CA smog laws do not allow the replacement of exhaust cats except under certain conditions. Intake parts like the turbo inlet hose may not be changed. There are no CARB exempt inlet hoses that I'm aware of. These parts may not increase tailpipe emissions but they must be submitted for CARB testing by the manufacturer to prove that they don't increase emissions. The CARB test is much more involved than a simple tailpipe sniffer test at your local smog station. That's why most manufacturers don't bother and just list their parts for 'off-road use'.
