Could be shards of concrete or fuel. Looked like fuel was spraying in some of the other pics. Either way I don't think I'd want either

Why risk your life for such crappy photos? Maybe if it was video, but still shots? Video would have been really cool but his pics don't shot anything but super close ups of the underside of the car... He could have had a zoom lens for all anyone knew... Not very smart, could have easily won the 2010 darwin award.

if you look at war photos, the photos are usually from low angles because the photographer is always staying low trying to stay out of harm. if you're interested in knowing why they do what they do, watch War Photographer. you can actually find it on youtube.
