I start up, strap in, try to stay under 4K RPM until the temp starts going up, then I get on it.

you dont need to wait for the coolant to warm up; its the oil temp that you're waiting for.

i get in, get situated then listen to about 30 to 45 seconds of a song... it probably means its like a minute by the time i start moving.

there is a definite difference when i don't wait to warm and start going, the car is much rougher, and just doesn't seem happy...

I'm one of the "C" marks on the stock engine temp gauge guys. When you see that the needle is moving across the "C", then you know that the oil has warmed up and the engine block is transferring heat to the coolant.

Isn't coolant much easier to warm up than oil? IIRC oil takes a lot longer to get to running temps than coolant. The WRX warms up fast compared to other cars I've driven and once it goes past the "C" mark it doesn't take much longer for it to go to the normal coolant operating temps, so before I start pushing more boost than what's needed and go any higher than 3k I usually wait until then.

I push the "start" button on my remote, drink a glass of OJ and eat a muffin then hop in and drive off right away.

don't forget that there is oil in your tranny and difs that need to warm up as well. which doesn't happen when you are just sitting in your driveway

well my driveway curves so they'd need to turn the wheel to get out of the driveway and turning the wheel w/o a key in the ignition would cause it to lock.

Then as they are stepping on the brake while backing down the driveway which is pretty steep, that will cause the motor to turn off so they would not get too far

I think I am ok
