So I bought a set of single port Borla headers for my 2.2L Impreza L, and I knew it was "cracked" already. However, I got these at a great price and couldn't pass them up.

Here's some pictures of the crack. It is at the same location, but on both sides:







How much do you think I can get this repaired for? My dad is a mechanic and owns a shop but he said something about not being able to weld stainless steel.

Also, I might want to get this part reinforced:

i think it should be pretty cheap to repair, you just need someone with a tig. or with a mig, you just have to get stainless wire and tri-mix (helium,co2,argon) gas for it, not a big deal at all. call some shops up to get some prices.

Where are you located? My cousin has a Miller 300 TIG in Sonoma that could patch that up in no time. Probably inexpensively too. The only issue I see is the hole on the one side of the tube. A patch piece would probably have to be fabbed up.

you can weld SS. my pos gruppe-s header cracked twiced since i've owned it and i had it welded twice already. first time was a friends neighbor who did it in his own garage (some kinda aero engineering guy).



second was a local shop. call around, maybe one of the vendors on iclub could do it

 

It will crack again. Borla headers are notorious for that if it's the first gen or 2 especially. Check over on RS25.com for what those guys do. Thankfully my borla header wasn't cracked when I had my 01 RS.
