Like others have said, fuel pump, boost controller, and a good custom tune will really help. Headers and intake will help as well if you want to throw some more parts at it.

I don't think Sigma Pi is implying cobb is a ricer company.

He is implying using a term that Cobb uses to define their products to cars in general is.

Its like saying yea I have a stage 2, its an Espiler catless turbo back exhaust tuned with EcuTek

Technically this isn't a stage 2 because this is not from Cobb. According to Roush, a stage 2 is suspension, cosmetic upgrades

Protune. All the way. I started with an Cobb OTS Stage 1 tune. Added exhuast. Then added a catted downpipe. Then ran a Cobb OTS Stage 2 tune. Then I installed a TMIC, VF39, and up pipe, and I ran the Cobb VF39 OTS map. Better, but when I got a protune it was a whole different world.

I was peaking around 15.3-15.7psi before. Now I'm usually around 18.7, and have hit as high as 19.1psi.

Car fulled stronger, smoother, and all around more predictable. And it absolutely screams.

Enlighten me here... what does a Manual Boost Controller or Boost Solenoid buy me? I've always understood that the waste gate etc was all pretty heavily ECU controlled on Subaru's. Do the factory units leak or cause some sort of restriction?

Similar question with the fuel pump. A pump by itself does not make power... are we just getting near the edge of what the OE pump can handle?

Believe me, I understand the value of a custom tune; I used to work at a Dyno shop.
Just want to get the powertrain combo set before paying for a Pro-Tune.

This. But id say cobb is the standard for subaru. Majority of us use cobb and know what the stages mean in terms of power.

MBC is used by some tuners who insist on them - not a necessity by any means. fuel pump decreases chance of an engine-destroying lean condition when boost levels increase over stock. cold air intake, again, has been discussed ad nauseum on this and other forums. my understanding after reading most pf that and from talking to several reputable tuners is that they've been shown to not add any performance gains when using stock location VF** turbos with stock fueling and reasonable boost levels. I think the commonly cited whp figure is 300, after which a stock mount turbo may (MAY) run out of air and need more via a CAI or SRI. Maf scaling is apparently a challenge with short ram intakes and stock turbos, but I'm no expert. I'd suggest calling several tuners and preparing yourself to get several different answers.

my STi makes 280/300 on a conservative 15.5 psi FLI protune on an AP with EL headers, Cobb catted turboback, stock airbox w/ k&n panel, walbro 255, and completely stock underhood fuel system and boost controller. no problems whatsoever, and my motor is completely healthy.
