Spring Turkey Season!

California Spring Turkey Season!

begins Saturday, March 26th. got my scoped rem 11-87 sportsman super-mag 3 1/2" dialed in and is ready to kill a spring gobbler!

any i-clubbers hunt turkeys?

i'm heading to Cache Creek Wildlife Area this Friday to scout with a couple others, this spring season goes until Sunday, May 1st.

it'll be my first time hunting this area, the habitat looks great after my initial map scouting, but looks like there will be some major hiking going on...

anyone going? post where! anyone know about Cache Creek Wildlife Area?

legal? can i take one?

i have a .22lr and a .177hmr if need be or can borrow a bow w/ guillotine heads also if noise is a factor.

i don't have any private land to hunt. trying to work with some vintners right now though.

you can get a clean headshot really though w/ .22lr? that's gotta be tough. i'd just go centermass w/ a .177 hmr or something.

and you won't eat lead with my supermag... i'll just blast his head clean off! lol w/ #5 and 6 blend and .675 choke at 40yrds most.

fyi-low water bridge is still out. i was just there a week ago and you can only get in from the back side.
ive hunted there since i could shoot. theres a few secret spots that i promise youll get a turkey. the area is down right nasty during wet season. 33" tires are a min to get anywere inside the blm land.

on 20? i'd be coming in from Clearlake Oaks... and saw either the North Fork Cache Creek (redbud trail) parking and trailhead or the Judge Davis Trail... i was prob gonna take the trail less traveled, Judge Davis Trail, and try to get into the Wilson Valley area to find some birds.

not too sure of what you're referring to, it'll be my first time in this area.

PM'ing you...

We have quite a few birds up on our property in Penn Valley. I have yet to get one so the cleaning process is unknown to me. I'm hoping to get out this spring. Got a beautiful black tail this season so I'd love to top it off with a turkey

if your going to try and enter the area from the north side(just past cache creek casino/clear lake, its locked. theres a gate locked because the low water bridge is washed out. if you come in from the napa county side you can drive part way in with a 4wd truck. what you need to remember is during deer season the roads get HAMMMERED. by summers end the roads have 12" of soft silt layered on the road. this turns into some of the nastiest mud ive ever come across. other than the tacoma i used to have, ive only seen 2 other trucks try getting back there during the winter.

if i wasnt helping friends move i would take you out and put you on some serious birds and pigs.
shoot me your number.if youy still up to hunt again in a couple weeks we could spend 2 days filling a ice chest with pig, squirell, turkey

if you really want some kickass hunting hit knoxville road north until you see the signs for hunting. its closer, hunting is better.

howitzer lol,
depends really. if im out hunting turkey and run into a pig,a hunting slug works well.
if im strickly pig hunting i use my 7mm rem mag or .223(head shot)
ive also killed one during deer season with a .40 handgun.

turkeys still in their winter flocks... and the creeks/drainages flowing like crazy

saw a couple flocks of 30+ birds, on private land though... quiet.

haven't broke up yet for spring mating. none were in strut, a couple jakes were kinda half strut on the outer edges of the flock.

saw some big a** tule elk also up there.

it was 37 when i got out to my spot at 6am... and raining. i was frozen by 9am.

no long beard for me opening weekend. =(

anyone have luck?
