Mine was a few weeks and keeping it wrapped and ice 20 min on 20 min off. and also keeping it elevated. The most important thing is just to stay off of it so it can heal. The more you are on it the longer it will take.
I sprained mine when i was in 8th grade 22 now.... i didnt listen to a damn thing the doctor told me... said no activity for 6 weeks i played hockey again in 2 weeks, hurt like a biotch but i still played.... however now i wish i would have listened to the doctor because when ever i put to much weight on my ankle it hurts like a mo fo... let it rest man...thats what i have learned

Stay off of it, ice on and off, ice again.
I have some crutches if you need a set. PM me. I have 2 sets so you are welcome to one.

i have some bad ankles.... used to run track in HS, best thing you could do is stay off it! make sure to ice that thing down and try to get one of those air cast from the doctor it really helps the swelling.
Jourdan: if you're sure it's just a sprain, do this.
RICE: rest, ice, compression, and elevation.
What that means is, stay off your foot, ice your affected area (20 min at a time), compress (use an ACE bandage wrap, don't wrap it too tight, or else it'll cut off circulation), and elevate (lay down on your back, use some pillows or roll up a comforter and make sure your foot is higher than your heart, it'll help the fluid circulate back to the rest of your body - basically Trendelenburg position, but on a unilateral basis). Take a pain reliever, such as, ibuprofen (comes in the form of regular ibuprofen, Advil, or Motrin). It'll help with the inflammation of your affected area and help with the pain, it'll also drop the temperature of your affected area, as it is also an antipyretic.
Good luck and speedy recovery. Get crutches if you need them and stay off the foot. It takes a few days before you can use your foot again.
Oh, and if you want, you can do some stuff I did: you can wrap the ACE bandage around the ice to hold it in place, be sure you put a towel between the ice pack and your skin though, or else you'll cause tissue break down. I did this when I slept and woke up some time in the night to change it or just leave it off.

Hey jourdan, I got one for you, and do not duplicate what I did......
Working at Speedee, I fell into the workpit ( 9-10 foot drop ) and landed on my feet. felt fine after, but about 6 hours later, I could not walk on my right foot at all. No weight whatsoever. Drove left-footed to the doctor, nd he said it ws a high ankle sprain. would take 6-7 weeks to even begin healing. I had to pick up my fiance at the airport in three days, and if I was hurt, she would butcher me. I filled the tub with hot water and epsom salts, and stood on myhurt ankle, alternating pressure until I could no longer feel the pain. Did this two days in a row. Third day, I was walking around perfectly fine with no issues with flex or handling weight. Doc saw me walikng into the office perfectly fine and said WTF!!!!
Been over a year with no issues except for the odd crack every now and then. That was a pre-existing condition, brought on by years of aggressive inline skating and jumping off ****..... Do not duplicate this. it's most likely not safe to do. I basically said **** it......

Ugh, I've sprained each ankle at least 10 times (skateboarder). Three times were really, really bad - where it swells up like a grapefruit. I also fractured my right one - Not fun.
When I was 18 - 22 I would heal in a month but now (28) It takes over twice as long. Icing it every 15 - 20 minutes for the first two days will help a lot. Keep it elevated.
