Spotty Coverage in the Bay Area w/ T-Mobile?

I recently bought a phone with T-Mobile service on Christmas Eve.

I then went to LA for vacation on Xmas day. I had excellent reception there (full bars).

However, when I came back here to SF/Daly City, I had zero to one bar at night while I'm at home. I said, oh well, maybe it's just tonight. Then the next morning/day, it was at 1-2 bars and I was at least able to make calls. Stayed this way for the entire day until it reached nighttime again. I thought it was interference or something so I walked a few blocks over and I got excellent reception and was able to make calls.

I can't really stand this because I'm not even able to make calls or receive calls at night unless I go to school or work in the day time where I can actually make calls. I'm still on the "trial" period and thinking about going back to the mall to return my phone. This is not only my phone either. My brother's phone is the same (we're on the shared plan.)

Anyone else getting this type of coverage in the Bay Area? More specifically Sunset/Daly City Westlake area?

TIA

sounds like you have spotty reception at your house. i know t-mobile has some coverage issues here in monterey, but i cant say one way or the other in SF. get a friend to come over with some other service and see if its diferent. my moms house in oakland is a reception *****, no provider has service there, you have to walk out onto the porch.

im intarested as to why you would get diferent amounts of service at diferent times of the day.

I have spotty coverage as well; it really depends on where you are in the Bay
Area (East Bay is so-so). There was a thread discussing this sorta issue a couple of weeks ago, and the consensus was that Verizon was the best all around in the Bay Area.

Yeah I made that thread a while back. I went with T-Mobile just to tryout. I still have my Cingular service (month to month pay) and even that's better than my T-Mobile service right now. I'll probably check out Verizon on Sunday.

Yes, mine is spotty too but its been getting better over the past 3 years. I love T-mobile, 2 lines, each having 1000 anytime, anywhere, free nights, weekends, mobile to mobile and no long distance or roaming. My bill never goes above $95.xx and combined total minutes have been above 2000. And there customer service has always been top notch IMO, although Ive heard the opposite from others. I always recomend TMobile for great value even though the coverage is not the best.

I am happy with TMobile but I do hot spots here and there. The 2 that get me is West on 92 to 280 North Ramp and the corner on Great Highway south of the Zoo. otherwise it works great for me.

+1

With T-Mobile I would get spotty reception in the second floor of my house (1-2 bars if I was near a window), and absolutely no reception on the first floor. I switched (back) to Verizon, and I now get reception everywhere in my house (near SFSU).

i have had both cingular services before and t-mobile now. I agree reception wise cingular is better.. t-mobile is not that great but I am not complaining. Cingular has the lousest customer services in the world.. they try to rip you off with their none sense tax and plans. they say all that when they try to get you to use their services but a year later they will cancel you plan and all those special features u originally signed up for.

Anyways, I am happy with cingular eventhou I barely have any reception at my place.

If you had good reception before and but not anymore since u came back from LA try restarting your phone. Or the hard restart. Have your phone on and take the battery out while it's ON. That reset things. See if that works you never know.

Thx for the replies...good stuff.

I just got back from returning my Tmobile phones. After that I went to the Cingular store (actually authorized dealer). When the sales rep told me about the plans, prices, fees, etc. I wanted to go back to Tmobile because of the good prices and all.
