California: Breaking up is hard to do
California's budget problems are kind of like the boy who cried "wolf." Nobody pays attention anymore. Well, hardly anybody. A radical idea that would split California into four distinct states garnered some attention on the Buzz. Commenters chimed in with their thoughts. Some even suggested names including Calidormia (for the "bedroom communities and burbs all across the state") and Califarmia (for the huge agricultural regions). The commenter notes that Calinormia could make for a nice state, but, alas, normal doesn't exist out west. Experts argue that the proposal doesn't have a chance of working, but we say "never say never." This is the state the elected Conan the Destroyer, after all.

This is an old idea; surfaces every few years, gets kicked around, and then (unfortunately) gets forgotten.

What I don't get is, why go through redistributing jurisdiction, when we can simply FIND better ways to cut budget and generate (ethical) revenue.

Then again, I wouldn't mind a "You Are Now Entering BAIC" sign on the freeways

and northern california will be stuck with a small % of money. where do you think most of the tax payer money comes from? NorCal? hell no. Not saying a **** load of money isn't paid in tax up here, but LA, Hollywood, Beverly Hills... so much money comes out of those areas.

So us socal folk would have money but no water, and you norcal folk would have water but no money. Haha.. **** water it's all about Brawndo anyway!
