i live and spend 98% of my time in sf. in most ways it's kind of a pain in the *** to own a car here, but what pisses me off the most is when people clearly take a two car spot and park smack dab in the middle of it. i approached a lady today as i see her get out of a car and tried to ask as nicely as possible if she could pull up. it's 1 hour parking on the block and her excuse is that she's going to move the car back and forth... (!!!!). i ask nicely one more time and tell her (and it's true) that the cops on this particular street don't generally ticket after a certain hour. she complies.
my question to you. i do this every time i park in these sorts of situations, but do you go out of your way to make sure (this really requires a couple more seconds of thinking) that if you can fit more cars on a block that you're parked to maximize space for others? or do you generally not give a ****?

I usually try to make sure that I leave enough space for others, but if I'm parallel parked I also try to make sure I have enough room to get out in case someone tries to box me in.
