Yeah, I'm not saying I didn't deserve a ticket, afterall I was breaking the law. It just seemed totally unreasonable considering most officers will let you slide with 5 over. Furthermore, I know of officers that just won't overcharge someone. For instance, if your doing 20 over and the fine says you're supposed to pay 150 bucks, they'll give you that. Now if you're doing 20 over in a construction zone in the middle of the night when no one is there they'll just say they ticketed you outside a construction zone to be reasonable. It happened to my dad while I was riding with him.

OMG!!! This is getting recokulous!!! I am so glad I did my research and got more information - I just spent 20 minutes on the phone with the court clerk and asked for information regarding my case number and the lady told me my exhaust ticket was "uncorrectable" when she looked it up.

I told her that VC-27151A is clearly a modified exhaust ticket that is correctable.. She said that in the computer system it shows that it isnt. Now I have to schedule and arraignment to get my charges and violations correct - Another reason why I have to fight this thing! Grrr

On my actual hard-copy-yellow ticket the box for "Correctable" was checked, and I remember asking the officer how to get it fixed - He was telling me to put the factory exhaust on and get it written off/signed and turn it into the court. WTF is going on?

I fought a traffic for running a red light when I was in high school. A CHP friend of my grandparents told me what to do and say. So I went and timed the light and drew diagrams of where I was vs the cop, etc etc. He even wrote the wrong year on the ticket (I drove and 86 Jetta and the ticket said 94) so I argued that since he pulled me over more than 1/2 mile later the car he had actually seen turned off and he got me on mistaken identity.

Judge said there's no proof either way, word vs word, and he believes the cop. So I have little faith in the legal system but it all depends on judge. That was in Santa Clara County. Oh yeah, I was banking on the cop not showing up and winning on default but little help that did.

The clerk and the court are after money.

27151. (a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of the vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits established for the type of vehicle in Article 2.5 (commencing with Section 27200). No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an exhaust system so modified.
Yes, this is a correctable offense. Don't wait, get it signed off.

Santa Clara county is a money machine. Traffic court has their own building... 2 rooms with 2 commisioners and a clerks office that can serve about 12-14 people at a time (fully staffed... never the case )

So...I just got a fix-it ticket in San Mateo on Labor day for a modified exhaust -CVC 27151(a). I just had this GReddy EVO 2 catback installed couple wks ago.

The damn idiot cop who pulled me over told me to get a carb sticker...I suppose that I'll just call the state ref and have it checked? Anyone had the same catback got the same kind of ticket?

I just got back from the San Bruno Ref for the noisy test, those guys are pretty cool...at 4500 RPM, my decibel reading is 88.10...all I gotta do is to have someone sign it off and send it in...but the guy who did the test told me that they can always pull you over for the same thing again, and again...those idiots got nothing else better to do but wasting everyone else's time...LAME!! X-(

so do you have a big tip on your exhaust? i have Borla, but its silenced and im pretty confident it would pass the test, as long as the ref testers dont care its a Borla CB.

Otherwise i will try to get it signed off by a sheriff and they will look at the tip and probly turn me down

Haha. Catback doesn't have anything to do with emissions. Haha. Man... that sucks. I haven't gotten pulled over yet.

its not the size or brand at all it will just be tested based on the rpm for your vehicle vs. the noise standard, most refs do 3 tests, average rpm is 4200-4400
there is a guide book at every shop that dictates the specific rpm

suprisingly only about 30% of the cars i noise tested over a year when i was a intern at salinas failed, most were just ticketed based on police opinion same with modified emmisions

The damn idiot cop who pulled me over told me to get a carb sticker...I suppose that I'll just call the state ref and have it checked? Anyone had the same catback got the same kind of ticket?

there are no EO's for catbacks, the cop is a dummy,as long as its within noise spec we dont care, call the scheduling center and make an appt. to see the ref and get it signed off.

^ok cool, but i dont have to go to a ref, i can simply go to any police station to get it signed off, my car is quiet, but still modified, so i dont know if it will pass or not visually. thats why id rather go to a ref if all they care about is decibel and not an aftermarket looking exhaust

exactly why i suggest calling the schedule center and getting a ref appt. instead of dealing with a retard...errrr i mean peace officer to get it signed off. seriously its regional but the majority of cars i saw when i was a intern were legal just cop f-ups,maybe 60-70% were cool, but the ones that wernt were awful.
