^Not tryin to be Devil's Advocate, but you'd have to have some serious training to realize (at first you dont even speak the same language) that he's trying to get you to "break yo self, foo" and then react fast enough to pull your own weapon out and shoot him.
Happened suddenly, and didn't even know what was going on 'til he flashed the piece, by then you'd have to "play dumb" or have some mad skillz to draw while his weapon is out and hope he doesn't just fire off the bat.

Its not hard to figure out what is going on when the pistol shows. At that point you go passive, when he lowers the gun/puts it in his pocket is the time to draw and fire. No you don't fire once, you fire 3-5 times, you make sure your target will not get back up...ever.
People who carry should not think they are in a western, it isn't time to pretend you are Dirty Harry. You have to think quick, look at the situation and decide what is best. Many a carry person has been robbed and never drawn their gun, why? because it was not safe to do so, for themselves or others around them.
Remember folks, better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6, and trust me when I say, it is never easy to fire at someone.

Also, would it not be obvious that both victims have cameras on them
I am bewildered that the robbers are stupid enough NOT to steal/smash those before anything else...
