sacramento raceway is a 2+ hour drive away, and sears point is only 1 hour awaymy vote goes to sears point, i have never done this type of thing before, anyone know how hard it is to get going? i really just want to find out what my car runs... i only want like 1 or 2 runs, i dont want to bracket race... is there an easier way?
first of all
dont' fret about it, its all set up for a fun time without the preasure of doin your best, even though you still want to :P
here's the gist.
its 20 dollars to enter to race, try and get there being on low low gas, like an 1/8th of a tank or so, or less, i try and arrive with my gas light on, so i can buy an 1/8 of a tank of 100 octane for that extra 20 HP
of course the earlier you get there, the more practice runs you will get in. by practice runs i mean exactly that, you can mess up/do great, and get the feel for things without it actually counting against you when you "race yourself"
usually around 5 or 6 they start the tourny, after running your practice races, a guy will come around with a chalk marker, and he will ask you what you think you will run. the goal of this is to say a time you can hit perfect, not go faster than, or go slower than. the goal is to get as close to that time as possible to advance against the next round. I usually tell him some # i dont' think i could ever hit, but within reason of course, and so far, i've always run extremely close to what i htink i can't do. if the guy you are racing gets closer to his said time than you do, you lose and haev to go home :P or stay and watch but thats boring. of course there are other ways you can be eliminated, red-lighting, which means you launched waaay to early.
when pulling up to the line, there will be the Xmas tree of lights. a little before you pul up to the line you will see some water puddle on the ground, drive aroudn that, for it is mostly for those huge muscle cars so they can burn out real easy and warm up their tires. so then you see the xmas lights, pull up slowly, there will be two mini lights, colored yellow when lit up. if you go slow, you will see one of the sets of lights light up. advance only a little further (slowly) and the 2nd set of lights will illuminate, this is when its time to stop and get ready, you will either have to wait for the guy next to you to do the same thing, or he was ahead of you and a little quicker in doin so. in either case, get ready, bring your revs to about 3k or 3500-3600. you will see the lights flash down the Christmas tree, SLIP your clutch, do not dump it, for a nice feathery release, as your tac drops b/c of the clutch engaging, put some umph into the gas and release the clutch, this iwll result in a swift fluent launch. be ready to shift into 2nd quickly, and you might need to feather that one out just a tad as well. if your car is stock, i recommend shifting at about 67 or 6800 b/c after that power just drops off and you will actually get a quicker time shifting at the above rev.
after running, you will loop around the back of the track, do not speed through this, you'll get kicked out asap. and there will be a toll like booth you pull up to and recieve your time slip. then drive back into line and wait allll over again.. believe me, there is a LOT of waiting. earlier you get there, the more runs you'll get in.
too lazy to edit, hope this helps
