Dude, so how much of europe did you travel through and how did you get around mostly (rental car) and how much did this all cost? I dream of a europe trip next summer after I graduate.

The trip cost was a bit more expensive than it could have been. If you get 4 of you together and get a rental car, its cheap. The rental car for 35 days was almost exactly $3000... full insurence and all. Considering a train pass for that long is about $700+ for the places i went (9 countries... Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Croatia, Bosnia, Slovenia, Austria, Czech Rep., and Poland). Its a better deal to get a car... besides, you can go where you want, when you want... which ownz.

Yeah, I got a bunch of pics of the swiss alps... I need to find soemwhere to host them. I have about 1,800 pics... I can reduce them to about 800.... (family stuff, etc taken out).

Damnnn. The car would be tight. I dunno if I can up my budget that much though. Hopefully a eurorail pass would be decent. What kind of places did you stay (sleep) at?

Well, the car would be about the same price as the eurorail pass... we also got a higher end car... you can get one for about 2k... if not a bit less. So, divided by 4, $500 each for a month. We stayed at guesthouses and hotels... split the cost by 3... which was cheaper than youth hostels. (its better when you travel with people cuz you can split the cost). I also stayed with family a lot of the time.

Crap, that's expensive!! My ex-husband and i rented from www.autofrance.net on our last two Europe trips; I think we paid in the vicinity of $500 total to rent a Peugeot 106 for roughly 3 weeks, and that's an all-inclusive rate that covers full insurance (with no deductible), unlimited mileage, 24 hour roadside assistance etc. You can pick from the full model line of Peugeots, the base model these days is the 206 instead of the 106 we had a couple years ago.

There is also no VAT to pay, no charge for additional drivers, and no drop-off surcharge if you return the car elsewhere. Plus, you get a brand-new car with literally 0 km on the odo with the documentation made out in your name (because the contract is actually a short-term lease rather than a rental). It's an awesome deal that just can't be beat, I'll definitely do it again next time I go.
