I can't believe that one crash that resulted in a broken collar bone when I was 15 years old could change my life so drastically. I can't stop thinking "what if I didn't go on that camping trip, what would my life be like if I didn't have chronic back pain". I just can't believe that a broken collar bone could do so much damage to someone.

To the people who have broken their collar bones, can I ask you some questions?

1. When you broke it, how badly was it broken? Did you fracture it or did you break it in half?

2. What did you do for medical care? Did you go to the doctor (I assume so because it's really painful)? What did they do for you? Did they actually do something or did they just give you a sling and tell you to go take some tylenol?

For me they did absolutely NOTHING but give me a sling and tell me to take tylenol or alieve. When I broke it, that sucker broke in half and ended in a weird angle... When the bone started healing it developed a HUGE lump of calcium where the break was... It healed that way, very crooked. I just think there has to have been something they could have done to help me then so I don't have to suffer with a life full of pain.

Am I wrong for being upset about this? (right above this sentence)

also collar bones is very hard to wrap up in plaster in order for it to heal, that's why most of the time they do what they told u to do, when my mom broke her arm really bad last year, they gave her a plastic cast that u can take on and off. im sorry that u had to suffer for so long before someone finally found out whats going on.

Same thing happened to my friend after a downhill longboard accident where he broke his collarbone as well as underwent a seizure. A year and a half so later he received surgery on his collarbone for similar reasons. Glad to hear you got to the bottom of it and best of luck

I broke mine in a car accident when I was 16. It was treated with Vicodin and a sling. Take a look at the pic to see how bad it was broken. My neck easily gets tired all the time and I get stiff really easily. Not looking forward to getting older and seeing how it turns out. They said they couldn't really do much beside a x brace type thing that would have hurt and been really uncomfortable, plus the results may not have been much better.

A girl I used to go out with broke her left collar bone skiing when she was like 13 or 14. It was a fracture from a skiing accident. She said that she was in a sling for a little while and took pain killers (didn't say what kind), but she lost a lot of strength in her left arm after the fracture healed. She played kendo (Japanese fencing) competitively, and her left arm was her power arm, so she had to train really hard to rebuild her slash. Other than that, not too many complications for her.

Krinkov's harassed, erm, I mean met her before...
