Dude that sucks, sorry to hear that.

I was telling the wife that Im ordering the killer B to install and she said if the oil light does come on it would be an excuse to rebuild and upgrade, then transfer my parts to her WRX. I knew there was a reason I married her.

Join the club. My 1st motor died under warranty because of the oil pump. Claim denied of course.

I've seen it on both WRX's and STI's. I've seen it more on cars that are driven hard which would make sense.

Labor is roughly $300 but the car has to stay overnight for the sealant to dry.

What do you mean? I wouldn't say it's really common considering all bay area shops have probably seen less than 20 failures over the past ~10 years. It is common enough, however for us to recommend an upgraded pickup on every built engine we send out.

If it was common you would have changed the oil pick-up long ago.

I was just never aware of this...my car is hardly ever driven. Ive put like 8k since my tune. Its frustrating that because of Subaru's bad pick up tube's ..it is going to cost me a new motor..i check my oil on every time i fill up my gas. I just changed my oil two weeks ago....there is just no way for me to have found out before...It seems common enough that Killer B an KMurphy made GOOD pick up tubes..im actually thinking of just parting out my parts and getting rid of the car..get something else that wont give me **** like this has...Its just bad rep for subaru to deny that its their fault..

with the money you would not spend on a rebuild + the money from parts + the money you could get for selling the car, you could pick up something real nice.

That's what my folks are telling me... they basically said.... sell my car for what I can get out of it. Take the $7k I'd spend on a new built motor and buy something for that total... only problem is that I LOVE my car and there's only one car out there I'd trade it for and they're WAAAAY more than $11-12k. LOL.
