Question So, How Are You, SAN MATEO Suby+Modded Ride Guys Making Out?? (been away for a bit)

what's up everyone,

been a little busy & preoccupied w/other things, so I haven't been by here much lately. but I just was wondering how all you guys living in San Mateo or that frequently roll through have been making out w/the well publicized "import+modded car crackdown" that's been going on out there.

a friend of mine that works for another friend's local shop says that customers are still coming in to buy parts & get mods installed, but a bunch have been complaining about the "overzealousness" of the guys in blue & tan in those parts.

apparently even grown guys in stock S4's, A4's, and just about anything & everything w/a wing or even a set of wheels is getting stopped & popped. Is this true?? (That's actually more of a rhetorical question cuz my boy isn't usually one to exaggerate or give bad 411)

anyways, hope all of you are staying under the radar and haven't been catching to much flak.

peace

CL

Everything is fine. They just patrol EC heavily on Fri and Sat nights. Also CHP patrols San Mateo now too.

On that last Friday around 5 people in the office here (SM area) got tickets for the usual silly crap like no front plates and such. A friend here at the office actually wrote a nicely worded letter to the author of the article about it as he is a SRT-4 owner, but I don't believe he got a response from it. I have been fine, but have been being very low key as I don't want to deal with the crap. All I have that is illegal is my header which while illegal, is not polluting like no cats - and I just don't want an un-educated fool pointing out things that he feels he should write on a ticket based on his need to fill a quota combined with my 1 non-compliant part.

hmm, doesn't sound that bad so far....not even 1/2 as bad as the reports I've been getting.

i'm kinda wondering if guys just aren't speaking/fessing up tho cuz i've been gettin 411 from various sources, and they basically all say the same thing.......SM police+CHP are cracking down pretty hard (a little too much & not very indiscriminantly too) again, allegedly, everything and anything "sporty" looking (not just overtly riced or modded out) is subject to getting pulled over, but word is they're especially hip to WRX's & Evos for some reason..........don't wanna stir anything up....just relaying what i'm getting. be careful, guys & girls.

Strange first mod? Why change the header and make the car illegal without getting power from losing cats?

no flame, just a question.

First mod?

Car has:

AGX, P1, ALK, Exedy clutch/light flywheel, WRX rear sway, Whiteline links f/r, Kartboy shifter + bushings, STi mounts, Steering bushings, Ganzflo style CAI (still has stock airbox), SS lines, Porterfield R4S pads, Borla header Swain Coated, ScoobySport axleback, prolly some stuff I forgot.

I got a great deal on the header and planned on getting an RT cat pipe and midpipe at a later date. Plus, on an N/A it's an excellent first mod because the stock Y pipe = poop. Also, you don't get more power from losing cats in mose cases (turbo is a different story but you can still do fine with 1 good cat).

No worries - no flames seen.
