So how functional do you think those ESX/Thunderhill winglets are?

Considering this car was converted to a 25-hour car in just one month, it is a testament to the quality of preparation and products that went into this effort. The PDX-tuned engine never skipped a beat and the Toyo tires performed consistently throughout. The StopTech brakes and Pagid pads were incredible, with consistent pedal feel and fade-free stopping ability the entire 25 hours, all on a single set of rotors! Nothing on the car felt used up at the end of the race. Simply amazing!"

Wow if that car had a huge turbo(assuming)...and PDX is able to get 480whp from a 30r turbo on a stock motored STI......This must be a 650whp car no?

That's what we all called the ESX car before it did the 25 of T-hill.
The Justification for the "wingy dings" was brilliant
Upon asking one of the ESX guys, they explained this:
"The car, being AWD, and the engine up front, has a lot of understeer. We are trying to increase front end downforce, to help front end grip and reduce understeer."
Last time I checked, having the engine up front helped with front end grip, but I'm no rocket surgeon. Yes, Subaru's have a tendancy to understeer, but c'mon. The wings looked recockulous.
The drivers, mechanics, team members, and most people who saw the car leading up to the event, had little faith it would finish. Let alone third overall and in class. The car was impressive and had minor problems. It shocked and impressed everyone.
I just hope they run it again and with more boost this time.

Ah-HA the truth comes out!! I think I need a carbon fiber dorsal fin on my car for similar reasons.

Either way the wingalings still look rediculous.

So, are you saying that the ESX car has some serious canards on it? I think they look fugly and someone should kick whoever put them on the car in the canards.

You guys would be amazed how much difference canards make. While I would not bother using on the enduro car (tire wear) I would definetely use them on a short course (Time Attack) car.
On a right done TimeAttack car, canards can make a difference of up to a full second. I have seen it more than once.
From what I know, you want to keep them as low as possible and as close to the nose of the car as possible to get max airflow over them to help them do what they do best = push your front end to the ground...

What's funny is that I had a dream last night about these winglet/cannards on a white suby owned by some chick who said that it made her car fly. In the dream I was all...hmmm...I guess other subies do it too. I don't know how it got to flying, but heck it was a dream.
