biggest complaints with issues are....

1. ****ty paint but you've got the CF hood.
2. Turbo's crack
3. Strut clunk but you've got modified suspension so that might be taken care of

Everything else is just normal car stuff. I'd have a 130 point inspection done on the car. Just to find things like a failing PS pump. Signs of abuse. Etc. But since its your buddies car you should know what you're getting yourself in to. So just do proper maintenance on the car and it should treat you just fine.

Probably have the turbo looked at or something. It's an excuse to upgrade and get that sucker tuned with an Accessport and such!

Axles break at the drag strip too. LOL

Tip: Don't 'accidentally' dump the clutch.

Also keep an eye out on the wheel bearings if you track and autoX heavily. (So i was told)

Burns oil. Check oil level often.

only problem I see is the HKS exhaust.. if it has the HKS downpipe it isn't a bellmouth which is whack.

My turbo cracked. Can't maintain boost at hight RPM. Stock strut clunk but I changed to Teins. Pinging with the old ECU, but went away after I sent it back to the factory for remap. I've been tracking my STi for a while now, so I'm waiting for my wheel bearings to fail anytime now. Other than that, no complaints, I have 71K miles with not major issues...knock on wood

Turbo cracks - 2004-2006 STi
Strut clunk - 2004-2007 STi

I havent had any issues with my drivetrain and I abuse it often (I bang shifts and do the occasional donut/burnout u-turn). But then again, I dont run the stock RE070 tires or drag radials. Non sticky tires will burn rubber pretty easy and be very forgiving to the drivetrain.

You will only have problems with the drivetrain if you do lots of crazy clutch drop or an amazing launch on near slick tires (like the RE070 or drag radials)....and the worst case scenerio would be an axle breaking (which is an easy fix) Other than that, the STi drivetrain is pretty stout, I have no qualms with beating it like a red headed step child!

yeah but even if you launched using stock re070, raise the pressure to around 38F35R
should cause the car to peel out more and have less drivetrain shock

Exactly. IMO the STi drivetrain is nearly bullet proof - it takes A LOT of abuse to break something. For 99% of STi owners the drivetrain will be trouble free.
