i switched out my 06 tails for the 04 tails a while back and have had a couple burnt bulbs since i did this. we switched everything including the bulbs and wiring just to make everything go really fast. i have been really lazy about replacing the couple burnt bulbs and finally did today. well, this is what i got when they all finally lit up.
does this mean the previous owner of these did the mod to these or is this normal?

it looks like the jdm taillight mod from the picture. without pressing your breaks do you have only the circle light(closer to the middle of the car) lit up? and when pressing the brakes, your outer lights+center brake lights light up? if so then you have the JDM mod.

 

ok, so i just went out to my car. with just having the tail lights lit and not the brake lights, this is what i got.
so there are 3 bulbs on each side.

(x) (x) ()__________() (x) (x)

the ones with the "x" are the ones that were lit. so the outers ones and not the center.

 

(x) (x) ( ) ( ) (x) (x) is correct for 2004-2005 taillights.

 

correct as in usdm or jdm???

 

USdm, same arrangement as my 05 sti

 

and what about the brake lights, are mine usdm too? or are those jdm and the tails usdm

For the record the JDM and USDM tails are exactly the same except for how the lights in them are phyiscally wired. On JDM the inside round light is used for running lights and the outside is used for break, while the middle is unused. Without going out to my car to check (in an inebriated state) I recall the USDM outer 2 lights are used for running lights and the inside round one lights when brakes are applied.
