Tell me about it. You could buy a WRX swapped L for the same price as some of the rs's out there... "Completely stock 98 rs with 130k miles ASKING $8000 FIRM!"

Yeah but just think about how much silly putty you could buy for $8,000!! It boggles the mind.

Technically, the white for the Evo 9 is called "Igloo White". The 8's had "weightless white" and "wicked white".

That's how i sold my 88 Mazda GTX for $3000+900 shipping to CT...it took a couple years, but I'm sure glad I turned down those $1000-$2000 offers
one other point there though is they only brought 1200 of those into the US and that was over 20 years ago and none of them lived a pampered life, most have them have already been totaled on a rally course or broke dow. hauled off, and crushed into a cube. I doubt theres less than a few hundred still surviving that are in decent shape. In that case yes it would be worth paying extra. Maybe this guy should store it for 20 years, then it will be worth 30K

yeah thats true. 10 years is a good window for something to be special. I was just assuming an EVO with 6,000 miles would be hard to find. Most that buy these rack up the miles, and people willing to not drive them (older guys) would buy a higher end car to keep in the garage.

One of my dreams is to own a bubble car, and this would be pretty close to the qualifications.

I bought my RS for $8000! i thought it was a deal 4 years ago since others were asking 10-12K

Capitol Mitsu had a silver RS on their corner display rack for $14,XXX a couple years ago

I sold my 2.5RS (2000 RS) that had around 140k but only about 40k on the motor and about 60k on the tranny since both were replaced. Motor was replaced by the dealer at 98k, and the tranny got replaced at around 120k by GST. The car came with a bunch of extras like wheels, brakes, strut bars, suspension... But the paint was in bad shape since it had some sap damage and subaru paint just sucks over 10 years. It also had a pretty nice sized dent on the passenger side rear quarter panel which couldn't be fixed by a dent king, it would have to be fixed-FIXED (replacing the panel or bondo). It had some other small problems here and there, but I wanted to keep it in the BAIC family and thats why I sold it for $2500 instead of 3500-4000 like I would have to anyone outside of the club... But things fell through in the end after I sold it and the guy I sold it to had to sell it due to some problems with his insurance that were beyond his power, so he sent me $500 after the fact because he had to sell it and couldn't keep it in the club. How cool is that of him? He didnt have to do any of that... He could have bought it from me and then sold it for profit, but instead of keeping the profit he sent it to me instead. Mucho karma right there.

My point is that people selling their 2.5RS's for more than 5k are smoking some major ganja (ganja laced with crack). Our RS's were cool and all, but you can buy a WRX for that price, and as much as I hate to say it, the WRX outperforms the RS in just about every way (stock vs stock)

It makes me feel very old when I see a WRX for sale at $7,000, or $8,000. That's so ridiculously inexpensive for a car that we were all praying to be sold in the US only 9 years ago. How quickly people forget the incredible bargain we get with even a WRX as far as engineering, and performance. Now it's been relegated to "Not an STi though" status. What a shame. I still remember the feeling I got seeing a yellow WRX for the first time back in 2001/2002. "OMG IT'S A WRX!!! A REAL LHD WRX HERE IN AMERICA!"

Now even an STi is "You've got an STi huh? Cool man. What turbo you running, 30R or 35R?" Since STi's are soooo underpowered, and handle terribly. Heaven forbid you have a stock STi!!!

yeah, put that another way, back in 02 I bought an 8 year old (94) civic EX for "only" $4K because it had a blown headgasket and I could fix it myself. I too was watching WRC and couldnt wait to drive a WRX, I did that year and even bone stock with 3 other people in the car I was blown away

Just last week I saw an 02 WRX with a blown headgasket for sale for the exact same $4K. If you told me back then I would have never believed you that someday I could get the same 8 year old WRX as an 8 year old civic.

Hell headgasket or not, 02 civics still go for $7-8K right now, and thats not even the Si

I was a poor kid 4 years ago that spent $8000 on an RS solely because it was white and 2 doors and teh secks. I think there are many poor kids out there that would buy an RS for $5000+ if i spent $8000. But I guess all the used WRX's are responsible for that depreciation.

people are stupid with money (me)

i swept all 50 cars at the first prairie city rallyx by 4 seconds in my RS (despite being in the 2wd run group which is why i DNF'd lol)...im jus sayin! so as for the wrx out-performing, i guess its how you plan to drive it.

Thing is, you can't really buy a WRX for $5k yet. You MIGHT be able to find a barely running, 140+K mile WRX that needs LOADS of work or has a salvage title whereas for that price you can find a RS that you could probably drive for a little while. I see this sort of thing come up a lot, usually when I have a car for sale, and someone will say exactly that - "you can get a newer one for that price" but it's just not true. Sure, there may be a few starting to be advertised at that price but do some searches and see what you can find in a WRX for even $8k right now. I only say this because I was looking for a while. A friend picked up a really nice WRB '02 sedan w/ 120k miles, bone stock for $7500 and that is the lowest I have heard of one actually going for, that would be a presentable car that you wouldn't mind owning. They will be there soon, but comparing someone's well maintained RS that they are asking a KBB price for to a clapped out "newer car" doesn't make much sense. Just a real pet-peeve of mine as a result of selling too many well-cared for cars over the years. If only I could buy a car I maintained... That would be stellar!

Oh - I have your P1's now by the way - they are on my coupe and still "in the family" if you will. Just need to get one tire LOL - what happened to that thing?
