Wonder what the 2nd terrorist was thinking...

"What the fu.. :boom:"

Overbear 05-04-2010 12:58 PM
This is pretty cool, crazy skills. The first terrorist didn't see or even hear it coming, crazy to think you could just drop dead like that from a gun shot wound. Then imagine being the second guy if you saw the first guy drop...LOL you would be pooping a brick. I heard about the previous record as it was documented on some military show I watched, it was held by the US.

Canadian sniper team, US hasn't held a record sense Vietnam...well, that we advertise to the world. I am quite sure some of our teams have done even longer shots, but our guys don't talk about some of their kills...

Wetops FTW

Sick shot! 1.5miles is insane! Pew pew pew

JelloChex 05-04-2010 02:09 PM

That's pretty crazy to get 2 kill shots from that distance. Very Impressive. :thumb:

slugrx 05-04-2010 02:10 PM

sucks to see that he broke both his arms a bit after the shot...

YuudaiSTI 05-04-2010 02:41 PM

^^ YEAH! I just read that.
Harrison learned of his record nine days ago, when he returned to England. In the weeks after his record shot, he suffered a minor gunshot wound and broke his arms when his vehicle hit a roadside bomb.
sucks!
Most school trained snipers get a chance to shoot from a helo, very few are actually "trained" to shoot from them. The difficulty of shooting from a moving platform is enormous and isn't a very reliable way to engage targets if there is another way.
What I'm talking about is a special unit (from which part of the military, I'm not sure) but they're specially trained, yes trained, to shoot from heli's. What they do is guard oil pipelines and key oil-related structures from saboteurs by shooting at 'em from a helicopter. I got this from an energy economics book though (not one of those best-sellers full of BS books but a text book) though so take what I say with a grain of salt I guess.

Is it possible to accurately shoot from a helo?
Yes.
Accurately snipe from a helo at distance?
Doubtful.

Lurk 05-04-2010 04:03 PM

I think every branch of the military has units that are trained to shoot from helos. But yes, taking precision shots from a moving helicopter is no easy task.
Ok here is food for thought...

that gun is chambered in the .338 LM

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.338_Lapua_Magnum

Now,lets assume its at 3000Ft/s with a zero at 500 yards as is typical for most military rifles of its type. So this means zero deflection at 500 yards. At 8,125 feet that bullet deflects (drops) almost 30 inches! (gravity's affects are universal and are only affected by the bullets larger mass causing air resistance to affect it less). This means he aimed a full 30" above the targets head to get that shot! how crazy is that.
ya the article listed it wrongly as the Accuracy International L11583

its a Accuracy International L115A3 (AWP!!1!:p )

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accuracy_International_AWM

yeah this record would be awesome with a .50BMG, the fact that he pulled it off with a .338 is simply phenomenal,

all I gotta say is......

I don't know the ballistics, but drop is likely measured in hundreds of inches, not 30. with a 1,200 meter zero, the round is -600 inches at 1700 meters.

Choku Dori 05-04-2010 06:15 PM

It's mind-boggling to think of how much win that Brit's shot had. I'm wildly impressed.
