california's vehicle code is so lame that there is NO "perfect" law abiding driver. I guarantee you that you're breaking one of our many lame *** laws even if you don't think so. That vehicle code book is like 1000 some pages of probable cause needed to pull you over for one violation or another lol. Screw cali.

Heres the best bet...
Have your stock ones tinted. Then they will still have a DOT number int hem and 99% of shops will sign them off.....they still allow about 90% light transmission...
But then again 64% of all statistics are wrong.

i think it's b/c youre not supposed to modify stock lighting to decrease output in any way, or I know that you need two red reflectors on the back of your car which are in the stock tails ( the 3 stripes) so tinting would cover those up, and those exposed with the tint would look kinda stupid.

I do believe they are legal, as long as they are visable red from the rear at all times
I know some of the first Altezza knock offs were getting poped cause they were all clear except for the bulb was red, which is not good enough.
as far as I know, as long as there is red reflectors in the rear of the light, then its ok. Ill dig around in the CVC again and find the codes for it
