Are smoked taillights illegal in Cali?

Heres the best bet...

Have your stock ones tinted. Then they will still have a DOT number int hem and 99% of shops will sign them off.....they still allow about 90% light transmission...

But then again 64% of all statistics are wrong.

i think it's b/c youre not supposed to modify stock lighting to decrease output in any way, or I know that you need two red reflectors on the back of your car which are in the stock tails ( the 3 stripes) so tinting would cover those up, and those exposed with the tint would look kinda stupid.

I do believe they are legal, as long as they are visable red from the rear at all times

I know some of the first Altezza knock offs were getting poped cause they were all clear except for the bulb was red, which is not good enough.

as far as I know, as long as there is red reflectors in the rear of the light, then its ok. Ill dig around in the CVC again and find the codes for it
