Hi there,

Is there anyone out there have experience with the new smoke check requirement? Or had brought in their WRX for 4-wheel smoke check yet?

THX

You mean SMOG check.

They don't have a dyno for AWD cars. So it is the old style where they just put the sniffer in the tailpipe, do a visual and hope you pass.

If you are referring to the SMOG check.. you probably don't have to do it since there is a 6 year new car exemption for it. Unless you just bought the car from someone.. the other person will be responsible for it.

Anyhow, I had to do it when I brought my 03 WRX from Canada. they don't put it on the dyno since it's a 4wd. they just put a pipe in your exhaust and plug a computer of some sort into your car.. too..

If you ahve engine management, I have heard that you wouldn't pass cos they will detect it.

of course if you have a TBE you wouldn't pass the visual since 2 cats are eliminated.

Put the old downpipe back and it should pass. The only change would have been if you receive your renewal and you need to take it to a Test only station as a requirement. That's been around for over a year.

The other would be is the change from having to get a smog from the 4th year of the vehicle to the 6th year. I don't think you would see any changes on the type of dynos in the testing centers simply because they already made these stations spend over $50,000 for them to able to test a vehicle.
