Smog question.
I'm finally gonna get my car registered in Ca. Does anyone know if you have to smog it before you go to the DMV(or is it just easier to have the certificate before).
Also are there any "good" places to get it done at? It's a 99 GT and I got a CEL a few months ago and just pulled the battery cable. Since then it's been running like ***, getting 17 or so mpg(probably less
). So I'm afraid it won't pass. Is there a pre test that doesn't get sent to the state? I know it needs a tuneup(60,000 mi) which I plan to do when I get the chance.
I'm going to bed and when I wake up, I expect to see some helpful replies. Unlike every other thread I post in.

You can always make an appointment with DMV and speak with them about exactly what they require to register the car in CA.

My car is registered in NY(I lived there for a few years)but I still have my CA drivers license.
That's what I thought about the DMV thing after reading through their website. I'm probably going to get it done before to make it easier.
Do dealerships do smog checks? And would it be a good idea to take it there? I have an extended warranty but it may be denied because I don't have any service records. Although the only services required since I've owned it were oil changes(40,000-58,800). Which I've either did myself or had done.
No I don't still have a CEL. It was a few months ago.
