SMOG question

i am selling my car and do i need to put back all the catalytics back to pass smog or can i just have the down pipe catalytic to pass????

if its less then 4 years old you dont have to smog it.

I'm pretty sure you have to smog it anytime you want to sell a car. When I bought my '02 in '03 the guy I bought it from had to smog it.

I believe it is 5 years. I just sold my 03. No smog.

Unless you are sure the future owner will not sue you, I would make sure it's back to stock. They can have an expensive shop repair it and you get stuck with the bill, especially in CA.

I say just put it all back to stock and be done with it! Better this way, than having to worry if something will come back to bite you later down the road.

If you sell the car with or without the aftermarket parts, have the buyer fill out a form you wrote that states the car is sold used and as-is with the following aftermarket parts. Even if the car is stock this is a safety net for you: a VW sold last year came to bite me in the @ss when the lady who bought it didn't register it and started getting tickets about every two days. She racked up hundreds in parking tickets and they all came to my house, DPT was a nightmare to sort out but I had a bill of sale I handwrote that proved it wasn't mine.

Yes, it is always a good idea to draw up some kind of a bill of sale contract-type-deal, for just such occasions.
