Yesterday the fiancee and I were coming back from a morning in Santa Cruz taking care of some wedding stuff. We get onto 17 at about 1:15pm and keep a speed between 55-65. There was a purple/maroonish SC Lexus about 6 car lengths behind us and never gets any closer or really falls behind. As we come around one bend we see a cop sitting in a turn out and as we pass him, he pulls out, no lights or sirens, just pulled out. For whatever reason this freaked the Lexus out and he flys up on us just as we are about to move over he does the super smart thing and merges into the south bound lanes . ( he did it on one of the spots were the median is gone so people going southbound can turn left) Now the cop has his window down yelling at the guy, couldnt hear him but he was waving his fist at him. The dude is still going 60-70mph in the wrong direction and cars are swerving out of his way, he then, next real smart thing, trys to turn around at the end of a sharper turn, so the people going southbound come to the end of a blind turn to see a sideways car trying to turn around. We saw one car go into the ditch trying to get of his way. Next thing we see is that first cop fly by us and do a U turn at the next median break and 3 more cops with lights blazing.

Stupid people.

About 10min after that I spotted Rallied out wrx heading south on 17.

 

Bloody hell. That driver definitely deserves the smart driver award.

The entire time it was going on, I had that " I cant beleave this is happening " feeling. It was a trip looking over the median and seeing a going the same speed as us, but driving into on coming trafic...

I think I get it... He had to be wanted by the police and he probably knew it.

 

wow thats crazy.. in oregon i had something like that happen but i was heading to get on the freeway and someone was coming up my ramp hella fast and there was barely any room for him to get by me.. scared the hell out of me. Hope no one got seriously hurt..

 

Sounds to me like whoever was in the Lexus had reason to think they were after him and was trying to duck out. Stupid, but the only explanation I can think of that makes any sense.

I would agree, something of that sort had to have set off his irrational paranoia

 

isnt there a solid median on 17, to where you cant cross into oncoming traffic?
