SAN JOSE, Calif. — San Jose State University police searched Sweeney Hall on the college campus Thursday morning after receiving a report of a gunman, a police dispatcher said.
University police received a call at around 9 a.m. about a gunman seen at the building, which is across from police headquarters in the southern part of the campus near San Salvador Street, according to the dispatcher.
The university sent out a text alert to all students reading -- "Man with gun call - police checking Sweeny Hall - shelter in place."
A student-employee at the Spartan Bookstore said at about 9:50 a.m. that staff had locked the store doors and employees were sheltering in place. There were no customers in the store, she said.
The employee said she had received an alert on her cellphone about the situation and was told to stay inside.
SJSU spokeswoman Pat Harris said only Sweeney Hall was subject to the lockdown. Elsewhere, students were in class.

LOL typical overreaction by CA people. Who wants to bet its a guy with a cellphone and not a gun, or better yet someone with a legal firearm and typical of most every college person ive seen, they are in a PANIC over it.

Even if it was a legal conceal carry, isnt it still illegal to carry on/close to school grounds? Or is it different for colleges compared to high school/elementary school?
If in doubt, FLAT OUT

Not sure about colleges, but now that open carry is illegal in the entire state, it would be illegal to have one in public basically. In your hand can be considered "brandishing" which is also illegal in pretty much every city here.
