Shotgun help!
buy a police model of the 870.
trust me when i say, you get what you pay for, when you see a sub $300 model at big 5 or something.
the police model/version gets extra work at the remington factory.
of course my fav version of the 870 is the MCS one... :evil smiley:

I've used the 870 police more than I would like lol.
What's the difference internally between a regular 870 and the police model? I was under the impression the differences were in the accessories

i read in a shotgun forum, that a regular 870 goes through more internal polishing and more TLC from the factory since its made for police work... hence the name... lol...
and hence the added cost.
personally, i got a hulk green tacti-cool 870 with a AR type stock and a very thick shoulder pad... which came in handy first time i was shooting slugs...

mossberg 500 at big 5 right now for under 300 brand new. i tried both i like the 870 more but since the price was so low for the 500 that's what i got in the safe. if you ever wanna go shooting let me know i'll bring it out.
I own them both and love them both. Honestly can't pick a favorite and they are both dead on reliable. In my opinion, you really can't go wrong with the savings at big 5. My dad just bought another mossberg 500 combo for $269.

The mossberg is a great shot gun. So is the 870. The 870 design has been around FOREVER.
If you want you can borrow mine and put some rounds through it. See if you like it.
I'd say either one is gonna be great. They both option out well and both are reliable as hell. That's what you want in a shot gun. I'm a noob though... so yeah.

6 one...half dozen the other....
I've owned multiple versions of both brands and either one is dead nuts reliable.
Currently, I love my 870 Marine Magnum in 12ga.
Buuuut, Mossberg has the safety selector in a better position.

The Safety's up here
The Police model has a better trigger group than the Express. That said, I have an Express.
You can get a top of the line stock for less than $150

My choice would be the 870.
Nothing wrong with Mossberg, but the 870 is the more tried and true shotgun. The Remmy just feels more solid. You can feel the difference just by holding the two. The Mossberg's receiver is aluminum, the 870's is steel. Can't go wrong with either one really.

i used the 500 when i was in the army to breach doors and locks, had it all tricked out with a surefire 1913 rail foregrip and m4 stock, all that jazz. it was good cause it was light. but i always thought it felt cheap. i bought a 870 for myslef last year, put a knoxx stck on it and a side saddle for shells. very reliable and better quality than the moss. feels more solid to me.
but i see you bought a 500, still a great buy, will do the job if needed. those zombies are sure to come out sooner or later
