What part of the install exactly is everyone having problems with?

I just can't justify paying a shop $200 (minimum) to install a part that only cost me $50.
I've been putting it off for a while but I'm just going to try and do it solo some time this week. If i fail then I can justify the $200.

If you fail, it will cost more than $200.

I can't tell you how many cars I've had towed in after the owner tried to install an up pipe.
Most of the time, they pushed the 1/2 moon plug into the head, causing a massive oil leak.

See, there you go! You just ruined all my confidence that i could get it done. I've read every single DIY i could find on the subject and not one person has mentioned a "1/2 moon plug".

AHQ or GST will most likely be collecting my money from me sometime this week.

P.S. Damn you Paul. You think they might let me watch at least? >.<

I have seen this and it amazes me that it can be done! pay attention and you will be fine! but be prepared if something does go wrong.

I'm going to call Mike today at GST to make an appointment to install my up. They installed my crosspipe and they did a very good job.

Yeah well go suck a banana Bruce.

Yes, I crapped all over the studs and stripped/siezed 3 of them(studs, nuts, AND up-pipe threads >.<) before tossing the whole damn thing. I bought a brand new one...injen brand? no idea. It has a flex section and is very shiny. Got it installed and everything else back in the car last night.

Grand total it took me 2 days of labor, $80 down pipe, $50 for my first up pipe, $70 for my second up pipe, $80 for heatwrap and silver sealing/paint spray, $100 for intercooler hoses, $40 for OEM gaskets for everything, and $50 to have a v-band flange and a 3inch adapter for my Borla Hush welded to the down pipe. Total: $470 cash.

If I get ~50hp out of the whole thing then i'm around $10 per horsepower, which isnt too bad.

Only thing I didn't put on was the heatshield over the turbo and the heatshield on the passenger side headers. I just plain ran out of sunlight on day 2 and didn't want to keep wrenching in the dark without work lights. The one over the headers will go on tonight and I will have to invent something to fit over the turbo unless AHQ (who was supposed to do my whole stage2 install tomorrow morning) agrees to put on my modified stocker.

@Paul: what is a half-moon plug? This?

Hey, laugh all you want. I've never worked on a car before, and I enjoy learning by doing.
I'm proud to say that I have done every mod on my car with my own hands. I bet if I had to do this whole job again it would be done in half the time and twice as well. Working on the car is half as fun as driving it and breaking it.
