SF Garbage Nazis will get j00!!
Well it's very simple on what the mayor is trying to do for SF. If it takes people time to sort out garbage, that is just a waste of man hours as it can be simply taken care of from the start, and once that happens it's just so much easier to just straight in without having extras to go over it. Right now, obviously they will be eye'ing people's garbage to see if they split it correctly, but long term this is just to reuse as much as possible, as well as use less man hours, therefore saving money period.
Great idea, I wouldn't see why this is going to be hard for anyone.

Sorry but I don't recycle a DAMN thing.
Many scientists believe that it has a harsher impact on the environment to recycle then it is to create a new product from scratch. Plus what happens when you mix lower quality plastics with higher quality plastics? The highest quality plastic can only be as good as the lowest quality plastic it is recycled with.
You won't get me to recycle. Matter of fact if you're on facebook become a fan of the page i made "not recycling" just search for that where you type in names of your friends and you can become a fan! DO IT!

I understand and agree with the concept but does that mean every room in the house will need 10 small bins to seperate them out? It's the effort of actually organizing it as you're throwing it out that is the problem. No one is going to walk to the garage to throw away every little thing properly.

Yeah lemme look around, I found a co.uk site that was talking about it with interviews.
While I look I'll run down the basic belief behind what I said..
-collect all the recycles - carbon/emissions
-separate recycles - machinery typically used for big batches - carbon/emissions
-transporting it all to a truck where it's not transported to a shipyard - carbon/emissions
-boating the material to China (typically) - carbon/emissions
-melting/breaking down the recyclables - carbon/emissions
-recreating the new product
Let's not even forget that most plastics cannot be recycled because it is mostly near impossible to sterilize.
